…because I either get excited about the adventure or curl up in the fetal position under my desk and tremble as fearful tears streak down my face. As entertaining as the latter option may be for my co-workers I’ve decided to go with option one and channel my inner crazy girl excitement at the prospect of taking on 50 very hilly miles on Saturday.
At this point running more miles will do no good, so I’ve resorted to fueling. It’s safe to say running 50 miles will burn a bajillion or more calories so stock piling my cookie dough and donuts and gummy bears reserves is a great plan, right? If it’s not, don’t tell me. In my defense I’ve also been sucking down water like it’s Mt Dew…which it definitely isn’t, ftr.

But don’t fret, I’m also preparing in a much more logical way – my bag of gear is packed and ready to go! It has been since Sunday. I usually end up sniff testing my BRC singlet the night before a race, not prepping everything a week in advance…I think I’m scared! Which is probably a good thing, 50 miles in a freaking long ways to run and I should probably respect that with some healthy fear!
I have actually been really good about the whole tapering thing over the last week or two [or month, but that’s beside the point] with shorter runs that make me smile. More often than not my runs are followed up with legit stretching, my vitamins are disappearing and I’ve even crawled into bed before 10pm a time or two! Taper crazies don’t exist in my world…my little, overworked brain was begging for this week!

I’ve also been recruiting friends for my runs lately – lots of friends. And once you get them to run the trails with you it’s surprisingly easy to get them to commit to races with you! Check out the sidebar…there are new races on the 2014 agenda! Of course a lot depends on how the Quad Rock 50M goes, but I’m feeling pretty confident. I don’t want to get cocky, but I’m going into this fully convinced I am capable of covering the full 50 miles. It might now happen, but I’m going to give it my best shot!
A morning run at Washington Park in Denver
So…here goes nothing! Just three more days until I wake up at an insanely early hour just to spend upwards of 14 hours running/hiking/crawling around on the trails of Lory State Park and Horsetooth Reservoir! I’m going to show up with shoes on and move forward in some fashion until someone pulls my bib tab and tells me I can stop. How’s that for a game plan?

Wishing you a wonderful, wonderful race! When I get tired on my 26.2, I’ll think of you running almost double as far. At elevation! Fuel up this week; that is smart.
Thank you!
And have a blast out there running — I’m really excited for you and your race! 🙂
You are gonna rock this race - have fun!
Thank you…fingers crossed for a good day!
You’ve got this, my friend! You are the biggest running rock star I know. I’ll be thinking about you and haunting social media for an update!
Awww, thank you! There will definitely be updates online, gotta make myself feel cool somehow! 🙂
Can we track each other that day? Maybe exchange cell #s so we can text inspiring quotes to keep us both moving in the right direction??! My training sounds a lot like yours - I am happy with the 2 30 milers I have under my belt, but know I could have done more. Oh well - here goes nothing! At least I look forward to a leisurely 50 mile “hike” through the Kansas prairie! 🙂
Ahhh…so excited for both of us! We’re going to be awesome, because I said so! 🙂
GOOD LUCK!!! I am so excited to hear how it goes 🙂
Thank you! I’m getting really excited! 🙂
