Well, hello there February. Some how we have already strutted our way into the second month of the year! It seems surreal, but probably because half of January, the proverbial “dead of winter”, has been sunny and warm here in Colorado. We have literally had summery temperatures with a week of highs hitting above 60 degrees. That is crazy…kind of awesome, but crazy. Of course, I’m sure we’ll pay for this in March when we get hit with blizzards and cold. But I digress, enough weather talk.

What’s going on in my life right now? If I sit and think about it my life feels like this weird mix of crazy busy + extended waiting games. A lot has been going on but I don’t exactly have much to show for it. Here’s what’s up…

…the site + IG account behind the hashtag #runabler are officially live and waiting for your shares! Get on that!

…as a reprieve from the run-all-the-miles mindset I’m hanging out at the SIA Snow Show + Demo Days this weekend!

…I have logged some serious long mile weekends, which has been encouraging! I just might survive AZ200!

…even with all the miles I ran in January it feels weird calling myself a runner or ultra runner. Silly semantics.

…if you didn’t see the post earlier check it out – I shaved my head, because why not?!

…my ice cream cravings have been completely replaced by my donut obsession. I afraid to do a calorie comparison!

…I’m still really missing being close to Denver/Boulder friends. Who knew Fort Collins was SO far away!

…on the money front I rocked at life in January! No race registration, no crazy Target binges, no impulse purchases!

…I’m really excited to be working with Gociety and Bia Sport on their social media + marketing teams!

…I have to get a root canal. I am not excited about this…mostly because it’s going to cost me a bajillion dollars!

…the one part of training I’m struggling with is strength. Lifting weights is repetitive in a way that running is not!

…airlines might actually be out to get me – they just taunt me with their flight schedules, every stinking day!

…there will be an international fastpacking trip going down in March, just waiting on those blasted flight schedules!

…February brings a lot of big runs – like a 100K in Moab, a friendly 50K in Fort Collins + snowy running in Summit Cty

…you may have picked up on this over the past year but I want to put it out in the open – I am divorced. Not ideal, not happy, not a public experience but the reality of my life, my decisions and where I am today. Definitely not what I expected or had planned but ultimately, I believe, it is the right decision. We are moving forward, picking up the pieces and finding ourselves in this big, crazy world. I will not be deleting Chris from the blog as he was a huge part of my life. If you’d like to follow his peak bagging + ultra running check out his site: iliketrails.com

So, there you have it! The latest and greatest [and not-so-greatest] things going down in my life right now! As everyone says – a new year holds all the opportunities… Of course, a new day or new hour or new minute does that for you too, so get out there and have fun with life, right?!

Heidi, I don’t know where to start - you are so strong. It sounds like you are handling the divorce as well as anyone can, and with such respect for each other. Kudos to you!
As for your other updates, I really enjoyed reading about them - good work on your high mileage and incorporating strength training!
    Keep on keepin’ on, girl!

Thank you. It’s been a weird balance but I think it’s slowed on a teetering, at least a bit!

I have been in your same position, and I promise it gets better every day. As I did, you will find someone who truly cherishes you and can be your partner in all that life offers. I have never been happier in a relationship and am so blessed to have had a second chance. So, just keep on being you and doing your thing. There is always a rainbow after a storm.
