Moab Miles

I spent my long weekend [thanks to PTO, not President’s Day] in Moab doing some very sandy car camping, roaming around the trails and re-inventing life with a little help from bacon. I made the trip with a few friends and we had quite the weekend filled with bacon, sand, snow and many, many miles. I even got to put my new Ultimate Direction Fastpack to good use on a 40+ mile trek along The Whole Enchilada trails.

Our trek took us from the sandy desert up into the snowy mountains, which meant we had to pack along a lot of gear…and that is exactly why what we originally planned as a trail run became an adventurous trek. I learned really fast that it is HARD to run uphill in sand while carrying a pack full of heavy wintry gear. At the end of the day it was well worth the drive, the packing, the sandy shoes and the slippery mud.

In the very near future, when I have the time + brain space, I’m going to recap our adventure while “running” the Whole Enchilada trails because I actually have accurate GPS data and I think it’s some useful information to share. I had a hard time finding anything online that wasn’t about a guided mountain biking trip. But…for now, all you get is a few teaser photos! Turns out life doesn’t stop just because you turned off your phone for a long weekend away from reality!

Happy “welcome back to reality” week…hopefully you’re enjoying caffeine and a literal take on Fat Tuesday as much as I am!

I am so jealous, as usual! It’s nice to see your pictures and remember there is still a world out there beyond the ice and snow…

Thank you! It was ironic hiking up a sandy trail with snowshoes strapped to our pack!

I really like that the trail is actually called the “Whole Enchilada.” I thought that’s just what you were calling it on Insta, ha. Looking forward to the recap and more photos!

Ha, yup, that’s it’s name! I’d like to go back out there and do it again without the snow — aka, smaller packs with water, but no winter gear. It’s a fun trail!

Moab is like halfway between Denver and Tahoe, right?! Let’s go…! It’s an awesome area! 🙂
