I’ve spent the last few months…not writing, not overworking + not running. Instead, I’ve been wandering, planning + spending time doing not-so-crazy things with people I really enjoy being around. I don’t want to jinx myself by saying “life is slowing down”, but my life choices seem to be a bit more purposeful. The “because, why not” way of decision-making isn’t going anywhere, trust me. But I’ve been a bit more intentional with my choices lately.

Life isn’t exactly slowing down, but I’m finding a way to work a little more fun into the crazy. Both jobs are still in full force + I’m roaming around Summit County without a car. This has me sinking a ton of time into work + bus-muting. However, my free time has been put to really good use…sans running shoes.

And just like that, it’s December. We still grossly low on snow up here in the Rocky Mountains but the weather has taken a turn for the colder [much colder] so I guess we can officially say winter has arrived. Finally. The resorts opened 3+ weeks behind schedule which meant those of us lucky enough to snag mountain jobs were stuck with an extra 3 weeks of free time, sans paycheck.

Whoa. I almost forgot all about this post! I’ve been writing a “currently” post every two months for nearly two years. This is the first one I didn’t have planned out in my heads weeks in advance. Not kidding. Usually I’ll be dealing with some random part of my life and think “oh, that’s definitely a ‘currently’ thing”. This time? None of that. None. Maybe it’s because I’ve been busy but really, I think it’s because I’ve been so focused on what’s happening in the exact moment I’m floating in that I literally have not taken the time to reflect. Maybe that’s a good thing, but I kind of miss looking back on the recent crazy of my life…so here goes!

Life has been crazy…a different kind of crazy than I’m usually giddy about. The “adulting” kind of crazy where everything revolves around going to work, working, washing clothes for work, making lunches for work and sometimes sleeping. Not exactly glamorous but I’m surviving and finding a way to enjoy it.

I’ve also found a little snippet of time to make a few changes here in my little corner of the internet! As of today runaroundaroo.com will be fading away while I spend my time writing + oversharing here, on heidikumm.com. I’ll give you no “growing up” or “moving on” explanation simply because I don’t have one. I wanted a change and this just kind of happened! You’ll notice both Instagram + Twitter have switched over to @heidikumm, too. Of course, run.around.aroo won’t be going anywhere, it’s fun to scroll back through old photos + recaps + stories, it just won’t be updated from here on out. Update your readers and all that jazz…because, why not?!

Uh. So. Hi? Yup, still alive over here, just loving the internet-less life a bit more than I expected! I’m in the process of getting back into the flow of “real life” with real responsibilities, a steady schedule and a place to park my car for more than one night at a time. Having a ton of free time has been surreal but I am honestly looking forward to more coordinated chaos with a some higher expectations for my productivity. No promises on my ability to be very good at meeting any expectations but it will be nice knowing they are there, waiting for me! Until then, I’m going to keep doing what I do best…currently…

A lot has changed over the past two months, but at the same time life feels very normal. Weirdly normal. I’m living in Switzerland, working for a couple I’ve only known for a few weeks, living in a hostel with a revolving door of strangers and grocery shopping with Google Translator in hand.

Shabammy…it’s spring! There are flowers blooming in front of my bedroom window but still ice on my car windows in the morning. Yup, definitely spring here on the Colorado Front Range. It has been a crazy busy start to 2015 and it feels weird to think we’ve already hit April! I’ve had a full year’s worth of excitement jammed into just three months and there is no slowing down!

This blog has been full of stories + photos from the adventures I’ve been on so far this year – Summit County, Moab and South America – but what’s been happening closer to home and what exciting things are happening in the near future? Without further adieu…

…I am happy. It seems so simple but I think it needs to be said. I am happy. With myself, my life and my future. #allthesmiles

…while trekking around South America I realized I don’t want to take a year off to travel the world, at least not in as few words.

…instead of constant travel something like WWOOF’ing sounds extremely appealing. It’d be nice to put my farm girl skills to use!

…the Arizona 200M race got cancelled in early February but another race director is working to pick it up + change the dates, so we’ll see!

…for some insane reason I decided to sign up for a road marathon to console myself, so the Steamboat Marathon is happening June 7th.

…I have no recollection on how to train for a road marathon but I do remember it sucking, a lot. The next few weeks may be whiney.

…putting true effort into building friendships that mean a lot to you pays off. It’s not always easy, but that’s what makes it worth it.

…my hair is the longest it has been, since I shaved it all off, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. It’s hard not to Bic it again!

…volunteering at an animal shelter is back on the table, or maybe I just need to stop watching kitten videos. I need my kitten fix!

…I’ve been working as a Trail Team Ambassador with Gociety as they launch into the Fort Collins area – it’s a lot of fun. Check ‘em out!

…next month I’ll be completing my Wildernress First Aid certification which I hope to follow-up with formal EMT training.

…I am also reading up on technical mountaineering, just because. Up next, some real world practice on snowy + technical mountain tops!

…the internet has been rather boring lately. Is that even possible? Or maybe real life is more interesting? Either way, if I disappear, this is why.

…my mom just might be coming to visit me in Colorado and I’m excited enough to tell the whole world!

…next weekend I’ll be taking on my second attempt at a winter hut trip. Hopefully the stomach flu stays away this time!

…oh, yea…the flu. It showed up the weekend I got back from South America so rather than yurt trip I ended up couch sitting. #notfun

And I think that is about all I have to share with the world at the moment. Oddly enough, when it’s laid out in a list like such my life doesn’t seem quite so exciting. But, screw lists…I’m still going to keep my giddy smiles and find something else in my life to build into a color coordinated list, like something boring at work. That’s what color coordinated lists are for, making boring things more exciting…right?!

Well, hello there February. Some how we have already strutted our way into the second month of the year! It seems surreal, but probably because half of January, the proverbial “dead of winter”, has been sunny and warm here in Colorado. We have literally had summery temperatures with a week of highs hitting above 60 degrees. That is crazy…kind of awesome, but crazy. Of course, I’m sure we’ll pay for this in March when we get hit with blizzards and cold. But I digress, enough weather talk.

What’s going on in my life right now? If I sit and think about it my life feels like this weird mix of crazy busy + extended waiting games. A lot has been going on but I don’t exactly have much to show for it. Here’s what’s up…

…the site + IG account behind the hashtag #runabler are officially live and waiting for your shares! Get on that!

…as a reprieve from the run-all-the-miles mindset I’m hanging out at the SIA Snow Show + Demo Days this weekend!

…I have logged some serious long mile weekends, which has been encouraging! I just might survive AZ200!

…even with all the miles I ran in January it feels weird calling myself a runner or ultra runner. Silly semantics.

…if you didn’t see the post earlier check it out – I shaved my head, because why not?!

…my ice cream cravings have been completely replaced by my donut obsession. I afraid to do a calorie comparison!

…I’m still really missing being close to Denver/Boulder friends. Who knew Fort Collins was SO far away!

…on the money front I rocked at life in January! No race registration, no crazy Target binges, no impulse purchases!

…I’m really excited to be working with Gociety and Bia Sport on their social media + marketing teams!

…I have to get a root canal. I am not excited about this…mostly because it’s going to cost me a bajillion dollars!

…the one part of training I’m struggling with is strength. Lifting weights is repetitive in a way that running is not!

…airlines might actually be out to get me – they just taunt me with their flight schedules, every stinking day!

…there will be an international fastpacking trip going down in March, just waiting on those blasted flight schedules!

…February brings a lot of big runs – like a 100K in Moab, a friendly 50K in Fort Collins + snowy running in Summit Cty

…you may have picked up on this over the past year but I want to put it out in the open – I am divorced. Not ideal, not happy, not a public experience but the reality of my life, my decisions and where I am today. Definitely not what I expected or had planned but ultimately, I believe, it is the right decision. We are moving forward, picking up the pieces and finding ourselves in this big, crazy world. I will not be deleting Chris from the blog as he was a huge part of my life. If you’d like to follow his peak bagging + ultra running check out his site: iliketrails.com

So, there you have it! The latest and greatest [and not-so-greatest] things going down in my life right now! As everyone says – a new year holds all the opportunities… Of course, a new day or new hour or new minute does that for you too, so get out there and have fun with life, right?!

And just like that, December is here! It feels weird to be closing in on the end of 2014. It’s been a long year with many life changes so I am more than ready for whatever 2015 has to offer…but at the same time it feels weird to close out such a massive year, to just be done with it. Of course, I’ll still be signing everything with “2014” well into March so I have plenty of time to adjust!
