Desert Bound + Ditching Domestic Endeavors

I'm headed off to chase some sunshine around the Utah desert. On Friday I'll be driving out to Moab to volunteer at the Moab 200 Mile Ultra race + the Mad Moose Events Canyonlands Other Half race for a long weekend of sand + sun. After I recoup from the sleepless nights + a long run of sweeping the Moab 200 course I'm headed further west. My destination is Capital Reef, for another long weekend of arches + pillars in the middle of the desert.

Volunteer Exchange // WorkAway vs HelpX vs WWOOF

My first bout of nomadic living came as a bit of a surprise, to everyone. Myself included. I didn't spend years saving up for travel. This meant my bank account was far from prepared for my voluntary stint of unemployment. However, everything else in my life was screaming "go, go, go". So I went. I didn't want to turn down the opportunity to see the world because it came unexpectedly. I decided I would just get really creative with my budgeting + travel plans. (more…)

Oh, Hey There…Winter?!

Looks like winter has arrived...sort of? I don't remember when snow first showed up last season, but I do know I was hiking well above 11,000 feet in November wearing a tank top on a nearly snow-free trail! We're in the midst of one of Mother Nature's full-blown mood swings! Don't believe me? Here's a peek at the last four days here in Silverthorne... (more…)

Currently.

Let's jump into the important stuff...like the fact it's my birthday month. Yay, aging? Okay, so that's not the most important thing happening in my life right now, but it will be my rebuttal to any agreement presented to me for the next 31 days. You've been warned. Start an argument, I dare you...okay, okay...just kidding. I'd rather eat cake. (more…)

Leaf Peeping // Fall Colors

Tis the season...of fall colors. While I'll always talk about missing the reds + oranges of the Midwest there is no denying the beauty of the Colorado yellows. It may not be the end of September yet, but we've already woken up to snow-topped peaks on the horizon more than once. I've even had the pleasure of driving over a snowy mountain pass already...so. not. ready. (more…)

Meandering Dirt Ribbons

Sometimes I have a million + a half words to throw down on a page. Words about the trail or words about my feelings or words of advice or...just words. Other times, I have no words. Or at least I don't have words that make any sense or follow any logical thought process. That is me, right now. I have a lot on my mind, but it doesn't quite make sense yet. (more…)
